Hua Hin Weather and Climate
Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine. The warm climate is one of the main reasons that Hua Hin is such a popular destination for holiday makers and retirees alike.
No more cold wet winter mornings of Europe. No need for overcoats and wellington boots. If you’re visiting Hua Hin then pack light and include lots of sun screen lotion.
Is the Hua Hin Climate for You?
The weather in this part of Thailand is a typical tropical climate with high humidity and occasional rain.
Generally, the cool season is from November to February and the hottest months are from March through to May. The rainy season begins in June and ends in October, however, since the weather is tropical, the rain outbursts are short, sporadic and heavy.
Having said that, Hua Hin has one of the lowest rainfall measurements in the country.
If the Hua Hin weather starts to become a little hot for you then just head on down to the beach where you’ll normally find a nice breeze.
The Seasons
The Dry Season
Roughly speaking the “cool, dry” season is from November-February. At this time of year, nights can get cool and the average temperature is around 26° Celsius. There is plenty of sunshine, although it is not as hot as later in the year.
On the beach tides are high and it can get windy in the afternoons although rain is very seldom experienced.
The Wet Season
The “rainy” season lasts from July-October. However, Hua Hin does not suffer from the monsoon downpours that the North and South experience.
You can expect temperatures to be at an average of 28° C with the evenings slightly cooler than in the hot season. Mornings can be overcast, but most days brighten up and become hot and humid.
Any rain is normally reserved for mid afternoons as cloud cover builds up over the hills in Burma (Myanmar) and when showers occur, they don’t last long and are a refreshing respite to the balmy days. Tides are low and the sea is generally calm.
Flooding has been known in downtown areas after heavy downpours however run-off is usually fairly quick as backed up rain water makes its way to the ocean.
The Hot Season
The “hot” season extends from March-June. Temperatures can easily reach an average of 29 degrees Celsius in the shade, with daytime temperatures rising to above 35°C. The nights can be hot and humid and the afternoons windy.
Towards the end of this season, it is not unusual to get some showers, but they tend to be in the afternoons and lasting generally not longer than an hour or so.
What Should You Were While in Hua Hin
Not sure what clothes to bring on your trip. Not much would be the short answer. The Hua Hin weather is pretty nice all year round so dress casually. Shorts and a t-shirt or a light dress are the norm.
You can see from the temperature graph above that it never really gets cold. In fact the coldest places you are likely to experience are inside the shopping malls and restaurants where they have air conditioning so you may want to bring a shawl.
If it’s raining then you can always borrow an umbrella from the hotel or pick one up cheap at a shopping center, rain jackets are not required. Most rain is short lived but heavy so you shouldn’t have to wait long before you can get on your way.
But whatever you choose to wear always protect yourself from the Sun. Even when it’s overcast you can still pick up a mean sun burn.
What Time of Year is Best to Visit
If you like it a bit cooler and dry then come at the beginning of the year. If you want a bit of heat and the occasional shower then come in May to July. If you prefer it humid with the chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms then come August to November.
So there you have it! Hua Hin weather in a nutshell.
