Sports & Golf in Hua Hin – Finding Your Game
The rapidly expanding population of Hua Hin has set its sights on providing some of the best sports facilities and activities in the country. There aren’t many sports that this small town can’t provide for both locals and the tourist inhabitants.
From extreme water sports such as kiteboarding to a more relaxed game of darts if you’re looking for some sporting activities to keep you occupied then look no further.
The newly opened Hua Hin Centennial Sports Club aims to be at the center of many sporting activities. With eleven tennis courts, two football pitches, a jogging track and an indoor area for basketball, badminton and volleyball it looks set to dominate the areas sporting activities.
Many important sporting events are held in Hua Hin including the Kite Boarding World Cup, International Beach Polo matches, PGA golfing tournaments and several international tennis friendlies.
Golf
Golf is one of the main reasons that tourists visit Hua Hin. With several world class golf courses in the surrounding area you could spend the whole of your vacation on the greens enjoying yourself.
Jogging & Trekking
If walking is your thing and you get bored of the shops then why not take a stroll along one of the beautiful beaches on offer or if you want to tick off some miles and work up a sweat then you’ll find that jogging can be very pleasant. Early morning and late afternoon are some of the best times for running when the sun isn’t so high.
Trekking in the local national parks or even the surrounding areas can also be a great way to take in the local sights.
Cycling & Mountain Biking
Cycling is growing ever more popular and there are several shops around town that will rent you out a bike for the day if you want to go exploring on your own.
If you travel in a group and want to explore then there are a few specialised cycling tour guides available that will take you around the area either on town rides or further afield to Hua Hin vine yard, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park and Dolphin Bay.
Mountain bikes, racing bikes and even tandems can be hired if needed and you’ll find cycling tours for all levels of experience from the casual rider to the more advanced off-road tracks.
Archery & Shooting
Archery and Paintballing is available at the ATV park on the road to Cha-Am and the Safari Park to the South of Hua Hin if you fancy improving your aim.
The local shooting ranges at the army camps both North and South of town are available for target practice with a range of guns and assault weapons for hire.
Fishing
For the fishing enthusiasts out there you’ll not be disappointed with the various fishing opportunities on offer. Hua Hin is an old fishing port and if sea fishing is yout thing then you’ll be able to find local tours that will take you out fishing for the day.
Fresh water fishing in the local ponds, lakes and reservoirs is popular but if you want to improve your chances of catching something then why not check out one of the several fishing lodges many of which have their own accommodation and restaurants for those that want to make a vacation of it.
Horseback Riding
Horse Riding classes are available at several locations. Pony rides can be had on the beach for children but it you want to learn to ride properly then you’ll find that the Hua Hin Horse Club is more to your liking.
With a range of horses and donkeys for riders of all ages you and your children can quickly learn all aspects of riding in the beautiful beach area of Khao Takiab.
If you’re North of town then the ATV Park also has a horse riding facility.
Water Sports
Hua Hin wouldn’t be the same without its beach life and that includes the many sports associated with it. Jet Skiing, Sea Kayaking, para-sailing and Hua Hin’s newest sport of Kitesurfing are all guaranteed to keep you entertained in the surf.
Wake-boarding and water skiing can be had at the Wake Park located West of town next to Black Mountain water park. This specially constructed wake park with its slides and jumps is only one of six in the whole of Thailand with a pulley system to tow you around it’s course at a steady 30 kph.
Swimming is everywhere in town with most resort, accommodation and guest houses having their own pools some of them hundreds of meters long.
Contact Sports
Thailand is of course famous for it’s martial arts and there are many visitors that come specifically to either learn of brush up on their Muay Thai or Thai Kick Boxing as it is often called. In Hua Hin you can learn your skills from the best champions and ex-stadium fighters that Thailand has to offer.
Football is a passion for Thai’s and in the past few years there have been several new football pitches built with artificial grass and available for hire during the day if you can stand the heat as they are outside pitches. The local teams normally play in the evening.
Hua Hin even has its own Premier League that normally meets up on Saturdays and Sundays for 7 aside games at the Xplode football arena on Soi 10.
Motor Sports
If you are more of an adrenaline junkie then why not try out the outdoor Go-Kart track opposite the airport or if you fancy something a little more off-road then you can always grab yourself a Quad bike from one of the ATV parks and spend the afternoon racing around the dirt tracks.
Ball Games
Tennis and Squash (as known as Racket-ball or Raquetball) courts are available at the Hilton Hua Hin Resort in the center of town.
Not your thing? Then have a go at badminton, table tennis, snooker or pool at one of the facilities around the city.
If you fancy a little Ten Pin Bowling then head up to the top floor of the Market Village shopping mall next to the Major cinema.
